2 Year-Olds who have caught my attention

Our resident tipster the Stanimal gives his weekly round up of runners and who to keep your eye on!

On Friday 05/09 magical Owen Burrows released another dubutant 2yo Raaheeb, sired by Sea the Stars out of Aghareed and breed and owned by Shadwell Estates, ran and won nicely by 1¼lengths, it wasn’t particularly fast but the way in which the colt ran impressed and went into my book. It was a smooth 7f class 3, 2yo Ascot race and he knew his job well.

Later I saw another smart 2yo trained by Georg Boughey over a mile El Vamos by St. Mark’s Basilica who is starting to make a name for himself as a sire. But El Vamos smartly won this Ascot 1mile contest by 33/4 lengths very comfortably at 17/2 but touched 12/1 so someone knew she was smart, again a slowly ran race but she was comfortable throughout and quickened in the style of a good filly.

Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum first ran Zeus Olympios from KR Burke’s stable in a group 3 at Haydock who very much impressed and 35 minutes later ran Bow Echo out of George Boughey stable who also duley impressed. Both horses sired by one of the go-to sires Night of Thunder and both breed by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid and both remain unbeaten which means both are going into my black book to follow for both this and next year.

I can’t wait for next years as it seems to be an exciting year for 3yo and is building to be a year of smart colts and fillies and not just from one stable. I have noticed on the 2yo front its been a little quite from the bigger yards so far although John and Thady Gosden sent a nice one out for her second run at Haydock on the same day Legacy Link over the mile for Juddmonte Farms also winning in a nice style by 2½lengths and she has some lofty entries especially in the bet365 Fillies Mile at Newmarket, so I will have to wait to see her again before she goes into the book but surely one to keep an eye on.
