To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the beloved Disney film The Lion King, Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing has unveiled an expansive ready-to-wear collection that is just roarsome!!
The collection, for men and women, is inspired by the themes and characters from the film, and features several Balmain signatures, such as striking silhouettes, sharp tailoring and intricate embellishments.
Working with as array of African artists, the brand was able to bring the cultural richness and exquiste vibrancy of Africa to the collection with South African painter Nika Mtwana, designing a colourful painting that Rousteing adapted into a colourful print. Cameroonian painter Enfant Precoce, Simba painting was emblazed across coats, suits and tee’s while South African artist Cassius Kumalo created an eye-catching portrait of Nala, which was also adapted for a series of hoodies, tees and totes.
Balmain’s DNA and passion for Parisian couture isn’t compromised by a collaboration with a Disney film that’s been featured on more school lunch boxes rather than luxurious sequin dresses. Instead it tastefully informs a collection that celebrates the cultural richness of Africa. The line includes everything from zebra-inspired print dresses to graphic T-shirts bearing illustrations of black leopards.
Balmain’s The Lion King will be released July 8 on Balmain’s website, Balmain stores, and some Balmain stockists.
