Charlie Appleby set’s the bar high in Dubai

Our resident tipster ‘The Stanimal’ reviews the Dubai Racing Carnival this January marvelling at Charlie Appleby’s success ..

Some nice horses were seen at Meyhda in Dubai this January with Charlie Appleby setting the bar high with 4 y-o Silver Lady winning the Cape Verdi presented by DP World GCC ( Group 2) fillies and Mares, beating one of my tipped horses for the season English Rose.

He has won a couple of nice Group 2’s with 4y-o Mysterious Night, two races one of which was the Group 2 Blue Point Spirit presented by Longines with the very capable sprinter Star of Mystery.

Now, I wrote here just before Christmas that you should follow anything out of superhouse Frankel, and Charlie Appleby introduced another Frankel colt Measured Time at the Gr.1 Jebel Hatta on Friday (26th January) who became the 34th worldwide top-level winner out of Frankel and I think Measured Time will be one of the Godolphins global runners this season.

Warren Point (centre,) goes on to beat Sean (farside) and Solid Stone (left) in The Dubai Millennium Stakes Meydan 2 Feb 2024

Siskany winning 2 listed, unbeaten 3y-o Cinderella Dream won 2nd February a nice condition race on turf, Mischief Magic listed spirit race, Warren Point won the Dubai Millennium Stakes presented by Al Tayor Motors ( Group 3) on turf and to round off a very successful Dubai Longines meeting he won the 3 y-o Jumeirah Guineas presented by Lincoln Nautilus ( conditions race) on turf. With his Legend of Time, Charlie Appleby, Aiden o’ Brien and a host of other trainers have lots of good horses in the stables so its going to be a very exciting season.
