Karl Burke’s fillies are hogging the limelight

Our resident tipster ‘The Stanimal’ gives his round-up of horse to watch out for ..

You don’t see many K.R.Burke trained horses but Samra Green one raced 2yo could be one that Mr Burke can challenge for top honors. Owned by Jaber Abdullah a filly by Saxon Warrior ran out a nice winner of a 7f Haydock in early August beating off the Ed Walker 2/5 favourite Moonshine, running on well and can go on from this.

She is entered in the group 2 Rockfel Stakes for fillies quoted at 25/1 but believe me she won’t be that at Newmarket on the day and also has an entry in the bet365 fillies mile at Newmarket in October.

Another K.Burke filly to do well and will certainly be knocking on the door of the Guineas next year is his well touted Venetian Sun. She strugled to get home by a neck in July at Newmarket 6f group2 after being impressive in her first 2 races before over 5 and 6f but at Newmarket she seemed to just get on top of Royal Fixation to me, she looked like she needed another furlong, but looking as her after the line I thought she just needed the race so we will see because she is set to go for the Deauville Sumbe Prix Morny Group1 for 2yo fillies and colts over 6f.

Also in this race is another of my horses to follow Gstaad also unbeaten and so impressive in winning Ascot’s Coventry group2 over6f and Gstaad won it going away from the 20 strong field and A.P O’Brien’s mount went into most people’s little black book for next year as well as mine! Although the form has not really been franked since he found his way through 20 runners on only his 2nd start so definitely remains in my little black book.

Back to Venetian Sun, 3 times unbeaten and Mr Burke glowed when speaking to Matt Chapman and she did duly oblige, she looked strong and there was somthing about her and Starman is doing very well but Mr Burke is not a fool and running the 3times unbeaten filly against colts as this stage, REALLY!!!

If she does run for lucky owner Tony Bllom and Ian McAleavy there there’s a reason and even if she did run would that ruin for for next year? My answer is this horse reminds me of Oh So Sharpe, another favourite o mine and she kept winning race after race and I say to you, Royal Fixation won nicely at York yesterday in the Lowther Stakes group2 and later the very impressive Minnie Hauk i the Yorkshire Oaks group1 and although both races were for fillies and the later for fillies and mares, I just thought its all about the girls, there is not many colts that have really impressed me apart from Never So Brave and the superb Ombudsman with a good pacemaker obviously! there are others but for me the girls definitely have it.

So the new Oh So Sharpe ie Venetian Sun wins if she runs although the Prix Morny is over 6f and she has Gstaad to beat then her next race will beover 7f and I believe you will see her in even better light and it will prepare her for the next years 1,000 Guineas where she will meet my other ones to watch, all I can say what an exciting 2026 we are going to have with new names vying for the classics.
